Fall Cleanup in Vancouver!
By now in British Columbia, the weather is getting chillier, the season’s colors are showing, and you’re stuck wondering what you are supposed to do about all these leaves in your yard. Have no fear because our BC Mowing and More! Team in Vancouver has you covered.
A fall cleanup is a great way to improve your property, ensure the long term health of your garden and lawn, and keep the City Bylaw officers away!
By the end of the summer, branches or stems of various shrubs and plants might have died or developed disease. Perhaps the summer’s growth has blocked pathways and larger plants have overtaken smaller plants. More so, trees and shrubs have shed their dead foliage, leaving dead branches and debris, and overwhelming amounts of leaves. If these aren’t removed during your fall cleanup, it can choke out your lawn, garden and plants and leave dead spots on your lawn.
Fall Cleanup and Leaf Cleanups in Vancouver!
When we do a fall cleanup in Vancouver, we will use our decades of experience to help prep your plants for optimal winter survival. We’ll remove dead or diseased branches, stems and foliage. Horticulturally, this is the “cleaning” method of pruning, one of four methods we use to properly prepare your plants for the various seasons. There are also the “Reducing”, “Thinning”, and “Raising” methods.
Reducing cuts back any growth that has started to block paths or cover unwanted areas.
The Thinning method is for your bushiest of plants, it thins out excessive branches in order to let more light hit the core of your plant, which promotes stronger growth for the remaining foliage.
Raising is the final method method, and thislooks to lift all of the unwanted stems and branches near the bottom of your plant or tree to a more desired height. Perhaps you have a bamboo plant that has grown leaves and stems across the entirety of their shoots, or perhaps the branches growing from the bottom of your tree have made it too hard for you to walk through your yard. This method cleans up the bottoms of your plants, lifting them to a safe or desirable height.

Fall Cleanup: The Pros For your Garden
Fall in British Columbia is a great time to clear out your weeds or dead plants in your garden, or even just prepare your plants for the next growing season. With our Fall Cleanup, we’ll appropriately cut any plants that need it down to the ground (ankling), and we’ll remove your weeds, dead plants, and especially the fallen leaves. We can also refresh your soil to promote optimal nutrients and water absorption for your plants moving into the chillier months.
Another service we could recommend for your garden is a bark mulch installation during a Fall Cleanup in Vancouver. Spring is typically the season most people think of for a bark mulch installation, but there are actually many great reasons to do it in the Fall! For one, it can help create a protective layer for the soil and roots of your plants, which can help protect root systems from those nasty, root damaging frosts. Bark mulch also helps lock in moisture, and if you live in areas that are particularly cold, this can keep your soil healthier for longer. Besides the health of your plants, a fresh bark mulch installation always brightens up the look of your garden, a blessing to look at on those chilly Vancouver days.
Your Lawn: Why Fertilizer and Lime in the Fall?
As Fall progresses in Vancouver, the growth of your grass begins to slow. Slower growth might make it harder for it to retain nutrients. As a result of all the evergreens in British-Columbia, the soil here is always too acidic, which consistent pH levels that are toxic to lawns and gardens (ever notice how hard it is to grow grass near cedars?). Fall is the perfect time to prepare your lawn for winter with some simple and cost effective solutions while we are at your property doing your Fall cleanup.
We always highly recommend a lime and fertilizer treatment, and we recommend this throughout the year in British Columbia. In the Spring and Fall especially, but every 6 weeks if you want the healthiest lawn.
Lime treatment helps correct acidic lawns, raising the pH of your lawn to the optimal levels to receive nutrients. Lime in combination with fertilizer, which provides the nutrients for your lawn, optimizes your lawn’s chances of growing and staying healthy. In the Spring and Fall, a good aeration can help as well.
BC Mowing and More! knows how to best prepare your lawn for the winter and we can deliver a well-rounded Fall cleanup that will really set up your outdoor space to look amazing in the Spring!
