Jim's Mowing is our go to landscaping company. We are able to do basic yard maintenance but whenever we've had a challenging task to do, such as hedge trimming, I'm grateful for the great work and results we get from Jim's Mowing.

Rio with Jim's Mowing does wonders on our property. It was covered with sod that died after we bought the property and he's since revitalized the lawn. Great communication and customer service. Would recommend working with him.

We have had Chris Thomsen from Abbotsford do our landscaping and trim our VERY large cedar hedges (at least 20 feet tall) on both sides of our property for the last 2 years. Also power raked and top soiled and seeded our grass. He has done a great job everytime! Trims our cedar hedges to perfection and does a meticulous job of clean up after the job is done. We have had other guys prior to Chris and they don’t come close to the excellent job Chris has done. We won’t go with any body else. Great guy, reliable and super skilled. Highly recommended!!!

It has taken a load off my busy schedule and it allows more time to be spent with my family knowing Chris takes care of our yard ! Great communication and always does a fantastic job. Highly recommend Chris from Abby.

As the chill of winter begins to fade and spring starts knocking on the door in British Columbia, getting your yard in shape might not be at the top of your to-do list. Facing an overgrown garden or a yard has overgrown can feel like a daunting task, especially when the weather is not exactly inviting.

That is why having a professional handle your spring cleanup can be a game-changer. Our trusted team of local experts in GetBCMowing & More! is ready to step in early, ensuring your outdoor space is well-maintained and getting the care it needs while you stay cozy indoors. With the right equipment, proper insurance, and our team’s exceptional skills, you can enjoy a beautifully refreshed yard without ever having to set foot in the cold.

Why Spring Cleanup is a Must

Though there is definitely something satisfying about stepping outside to a tidy garden, a lush green lawn, and neatly pruned trees, a well-kept yard is definitely not just about looks. Beyond the beauty, a proper spring cleanup sets the foundation for a healthier, more vibrant outdoor space by clearing out all the debris and buildup left behind by winter.

In British Columbia, the colder months tend to leave yards covered in fallen branches, dead leaves, and compacted soil—all of which can smother new growth if left unchecked. Getting ahead of the mess early on ensures your lawn and garden get the fresh start they need. However, tackling all that buildup can be a big job, and without the right tools and know-how, it is easy to miss key steps that can affect your yard’s health in the long run.

So what should you focus on?

Here is a general guide for what to look for in your spring cleanups.

Spring Lawn Care Essentials

Your lawn is the heart of your yard and after a long winter, it likely needs some extra care to bounce back. In British Columbia, months of cold, wet weather can leave grass patchy, compacted, or struggling to grow. A proper spring cleanup will help bring your grass back to life.

If heavy foot traffic—whether from kids, pets, or wildlife—has worn down certain areas of your lawn, those spots will need a bit of repair.

Another key step is making sure that your lawn can actually absorb the nutrients it needs. British Columbia’s heavy rainfall can throw off the soil’s pH balance, making it too acidic for fertilizer to work effectively. That is why lime treatment is essential as it helps neutralize acidity so your lawn can fully benefit from fertilizer and grow thick and healthy. If you skip this step, you might not see the results you’re hoping for.

Taking care of these details in early spring sets the stage for a lush, vibrant lawn all season long. But doing it right takes time, effort, and the right approach—something that may be left to those who know exactly what your yard needs when you are unsure if you have the ability to do it.

Perennials

British Columbia is home to an abundance of thriving perennial hedges, trees, and shrubs—plants that keep coming back year after year. But after a long winter, they need a little TLC to stay strong and healthy. So, what should you focus on during a spring cleanup?

First, clear out any dead, damaged, or diseased branches. Not only does this improve the look of your yard, but it also allows more sunlight to reach the healthy parts of the plant and helps water and nutrients circulate properly. Next, trim back any overhanging branches blocking walkways, driveways, or roads to keep your space safe. It is a small step that makes a big difference in the long run.

For smaller perennials, a good cutback helps encourage fresh, healthy growth for the season ahead. Taking care of these tasks properly sets the stage for a lush, well-maintained landscape—but if you’d rather skip the hassle, a professional touch can make all the difference. With the right equipment, skills, and proper insurance, our team at BC Mowing & More will be more than happy to help you!

Garden Refresh through Spring Cleanup

When it comes to spring cleanups, your garden deserves just as much attention as the rest of your outdoor space. Over the winter months here in British Columbia, gardens tend to collect their fair share of leaves, branches, and other debris. It is important to wait until the ground has thawed before diving in, but once the timing is right, clearing out that buildup is essential for a fresh start.

Weeds are another challenge that cannot be ignored. If left unchecked, they will compete with your plants for space and nutrients, leaving your flowers struggling to thrive. To give your plants the best chance to thrive, it’s crucial to remove all that unwanted growth. A clean, well-prepped garden bed is the foundation for vibrant blooms and lush landscape this season.

Walkways & Patios

In places like the Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and Okanagan, it does not really take long for patios and walkways to get buried under leaves, dirt, and debris. As such, keeping them clean can feel like a never-ending task. But since these are the spots where you’ll likely spend the most time enjoying your yard, keeping them in top shape makes a big difference. A fresh, clean look can make all the difference in helping your yard feel truly refreshed.

With spring right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get ahead of the mess. And if you’d rather skip the hassle and enjoy the results, bringing in a professional such as our team in BC Mowing & More can make all the difference!
